The first American to participate in a pivotal clinical trial aimed at treating heart failure received treatment right here in Kansas City at Saint Luke's Hospital.

In November, Kenneth Sondermeyer underwent the new procedure as a part of the RELIVE (Randomized Evaluation of Less Invasive Ventricular Enhancement) clinical trial.

FOX 4 talked with Kenneth and his cardiologist, Dr. Andrew Kao, medical director of cardiac transplantation at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, about this minimally invasive new option that is changing the game for heart failure patients who have suffered heart attacks like Kenneth.
