All in since 1882

What began as a small hospital in a tiny trading town has evolved into the region's premier health system. Over the decades, we've pushed boundaries and pioneered treatments to set a new standard of care in Kansas City.

1882–1903: Early foundations 
Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City is founded to bring greater care to a growing city.

1903–1923: Leading in education 
Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences opens to serve generations of nursing staff.

1923–1956: Growth and innovation 
Saint Luke’s moves to a new facility at 44th St. and Wornall Road amidst key advancements in diagnosing and treating disease.

1956–1981: Innovative care 
Saint Luke’s commissions the nation’s first freestanding heart hospital, Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute. New specialty facilities for neuroscience, cancer, and women’s health come online.

1981–2006: Regional expansion 
Saint Luke’s expands with the construction of Saint Luke’s North Hospital–Barry Road, Saint Luke’s East Hospital, and Saint Luke’s South Hospital. The Women’s Heart Center becomes the nation’s first dedicated center to take a proactive role in women’s health.

2006–2024: New capabilities 
Saint Luke’s expands its reach and capabilities with Allen County Regional Hospital, Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute, Saint Luke’s Bishop Spencer Place, Saint Luke’s Koontz Center for Advanced Breast Cancer, and Saint Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute.

2024–present: United in care 
BJC and Saint Luke’s officially combined as BJC Health to operate as a single, integrated health care organization serving Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois.
